GLASS ANIMALS LISTENING PARTY @ Wax Trax
‘I Love You So F***ing Much’ LP

Pop songs are bookmarks for the important pages we turn in the diary of our lives: first crush, first dance, first date, first kiss… first broken heart.
Somehow, it both matters and doesn’t matter so much what the song is: it’s a moment and a feeling. That song becomes a link, a hinge that holds together pieces of your heart and, maybe, pieces of another’s heart — that first time something mattered so much you thought the world would break in two from sheer joy or crushing sadness.

I couldn’t say for sure, but I think Glass Animals are trying to make those songs. The sound is lush, supple, inviting. It’s there but it doesn’t knock you over the head. It sounds like it would like to slip up on you and take you by the hand. A little by surprise. A little like a new friend.
Some of this occurred to me as I looked at the folks crowding into Wax Trax for a Listening Party for a preview of the Glass Animals new album, ‘I Love You So F***king Much’, due out on 7/19.
The crowd was young, eager, easy going, polite and cheerful. They were here to have fun, make some memories and to be here with others who felt the same.
With 100+ bodies jammed into Wax Trax on a near 100 degree day, it got warm and muggy but the kids didn’t mind.
They swayed with the music, danced, held hands, laughed, sang along.
It was their moment, a bookmark for another page.
